Measurements
What you will need before you begin:
- Sewing/flexible measuring tape.
- The boots or shoes you will be wearing for your costume.
- A second set of hands and/or eyes.
- If you are taller than 5’8” (172 cm) you may need one that is longer than the standard 60” (150 cm) tape. You can find measuring tapes in 90" and 120" at a lot of online retailers or any big box fabric or craft store. A metal measuring tape will do in a pinch, but isn’t recommended and non flexible rulers are right out.
- If your footwear hasn’t arrived, then anything with a similar sole and heel thickness. This could be a different pair of boots/shoes or even a book. Better a robe that is too long than one that isn’t long enough.
- A human or droid assistant is best, but anything that can help you measure yourself accurately will do.
Once you have the necessities, let's begin.
Step One:
Don't Panic!
Step OHMIGAWD!:
(If you didn’t panic, feel free to proceed to Step Two.)
Take a deep breath and locate your towel. Take a break, have a cool drink, call a friend. Once you’ve re-attained your calm, come back. We’ll still be here.
Welcome back.
Now that you are in a new state of not-panic, proceed to Step Two.
Step Two:
Find the link to the robe or cloak you want and click it. Read through all of the directions and look at all of the pictures/diagrams. It really is as simple as it looks.
If it still doesn’t make much sense, call an expert. This will probably be Mom, they usually know these things. Grandmas, savvy Dads, or your cosplaying buddy are great backups.
Step Three:
Ready? Measure!
(All measurements are taken from the back.)
Step Four:
Measure a second time, just to be sure. We can only cut the fabric once.
